

Meet Dr. Fewel
Matthew Fewel, MD, FAANS
Board Certified Neurological Surgeon
Dr. Fewel is a board certified neurological spine surgeon with more than 25 years of experience. His career is marked by a commitment to compassionate care, clinical excellence, patient education, and shared decision making.
Dr. Fewel's journey in medicine started after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Washington with a degree in business administration. He was a volunteer in the Children's Hospital & Medical Center emergency room in Seattle and was a recipient of a Strahl Caverly Scholarship for his post-baccalaureate work, subsequently matriculating at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). There he completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and was the AMA-ERF Achievement Award winner as the top medical student in the clinical years and a Dean’s Scholar all four years. He was the AOA Vice President, USC Chapter.
He then pursued his neurological surgery residency training at the University of Michigan under the guidance of Dr. Julian "Buzz" Hoff and later Dr. Karin Muraszko. While there, he won the Resident Award for Outstanding Research from the Michigan Association of Neurological Surgeons for his research presentation on a novel brain tumor treatment. He scored in the 95th percentile on the American Board of Neurological Surgery Primary examination.
He has been a neurological surgeon in the Tri-Cities area since 2005 and is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He maintains hospital privileges at all of the local hospitals (Kadlec, Trios, Lourdes).
